This wood mask is an authentic one of a kind mask, hand carved and purchased in West Africa.
This crocodile face mask
symbolizes a protective spirit. The crocodile is regarded as a powerful guardian
spirit and crocodile masks are used in rituals to frighten off or cast away evil
spirits.
Also the bird figure placed over the mask head on the crocodile's tail is
regarded as being a protective spirit. The animal horns are means of attack, a
show of power and aggressiveness.
Overall, this masks combines animal symbols that offer protection from the air,
water and land therefore assuring total protection for the wearer and subjects
from all kinds of evil spirits and enemies wherever their attack may come from.
